About Pilates

What is Pilates?
Pilates is a method of exercise backed up by scientific evidence to strengthen core muscles, help improve balance and total coordination of the body. Regular practice of Pilates will help you to prevent injuries and obtain a strong, yet flexible and shaped up body.
What is BDC PILATES?
BDC PILATES studio was launched by Broadway Dance Center, an institution which has been bringing opportunities for training professional dancers over 35 years. Training done with pilates machines such as reformers will help achieve definite results such as improved posture and coordination, toned body and relief from various body pains. We offer both group and private sessions.
I am new to Pilates, but can I still train at your studio?
YES. We offer beginner classes for those who are new to the reformer. Please feel free to contact us for trial lessons.
From what age can I be admitted to the studio?
Group lessons are available for those over Junior High School. Private session is open for people of all ages, however written consent form is required for those under the age of 18. Please attend sessions according to your condition. Contact us to learn more.
Are Men able to join BDC PILATES?
Male members are welcomed at our Omotesando and Kichijoji studio.
Ebisu studio is for Women only.
Who is Pilates it for?
Pilates is for everybody because it is an exercise that tailors to each individual’s needs. It is recommended for those who want relief of lower back and shoulder pain, for those who want to improve athletic performance such as tennis, golf, and dance for those who wish to recover from injuries and for those who wish to obtain a shaped toned body.
How often do I need to do Pilates?
To maintain muscle and motor memories, at least 1 session per week is recommended, 2 sessions per week is an ideal. Because repetition is the key to Pilates exercise, regular sessions over an extended period of time is required to score the desired results.
Can I still take a session even if I have a health condition?
Depending on the condition, lesson may need to be put off until your doctor clears you. Please inform your instructor in advance for any medical condition.
Can I do Pilates while pregnant?
Group classes are not available during Pre-Natal period, however Private sessions may be offered. Please contact us for further information.

Trial Sessions

How can I apply for a trial lesson?

Do I need to make a reservation?
YES. All classes are by reservation only.

How early should I arrive for a trial lesson?
Please arrive approximately 20 minutes prior to your appointment time.
Registration and changing time included.
What do I need to bring for the trial?
Please bring comfortable easy-to-move clothing and a pair of socks. For those interested in signing up for membership, please be prepared to make necessary payments (one-time membership fee, registration fee, advance payment for 2 months in one lump sum, and trial fee if applicable). Please also bring your bank ATM card to apply for monthly auto payment for the ongoing membership fee.
How much time should I expect for the trial session?
Approximately 1.5 hours.
Includes 45 minute session, post-counseling, and changing time.
Can I observe the studio?
Please contact our studio for inquiries.
How many trial lessons can I take?
You may take 1 of each session from Group and Private classes.

Membership/ Pricing

What is a Group Session Membership?
Group membership allows you to take reformer lessons in a small group setting.
Omotesando studio: Maximum groups of 6. Package of 4 sessions a month, up to 2 sessions can be carried over to the following month.
Ebisu studio: Maximum groups of 8. Package if 4 sessions a month, up to 2 sessions can be carried over to the following month.
Kichijoji studio: Maximum groups of 8. Package of 3 sessions a month, up to 1 session can be carried over to the following month.

Extra lessons are available by purchasing single tickets as needed.
What is a Private Session Membership?
1 on 1 session with our instructor using all of Pilates equipments depending on the goals/concerns of the client.
Private membership is offered at our Omotesando and Kichijoji studios.
Package of 1 session per month with monthly membership fee of 9000yen(tax excluded). 1 session can be carried over to the following month.
Extra lessons are available by purchasing single tickets as needed.
How can I pay my monthly membership fee?
Monthly fee is paid by auto payment on the 27th or the next business day of each month from your bank account.
Can I take more than the given numbers of session per month?
YES. Extra lesson is available by purchasing single tickets as needed.
What happens if I can do only 2 lessons this month?
Omotesando and Ebisu members: Up to 2 lessons can be carried over to the following month.
Kichijoji members: Up to 1 lesson can be carried over to the following month.
Private members: Up to 1 lesson can be carried over to the following month.

Please note that lessons cannot be carried over after suspension of your membership.
What duration does the monthly fee apply?
From the 1st to the last day of each month.
Can I take both Group and Private session?
YES. Additional sessions can be purchased on a single base, regardless of the type of membership.
Can I change my membership from Group to Private?
YES, membership type can be changed after enrollment.
Advance notice of 1 month and 10 days is required at the studio for process. Closing date for processing is 20th of each month. (Ex: To change your membership from December 1, you must apply by October 20th. )
Can I take a lesson at other BDC PILATES studios?
YES. Members can join for additional sessions at other BDC PILATES studio by purchasing single tickets.
Please note that lessons granted as a membership package is only valid at the studio you joined.

Bookings/ Cancellations

How can I make my bookings?

How far ahead can I make my bookings for group sessions?
Classes can be booked up to 1 month ahead from the present month to the last minute before the lesson.
How far ahead can I make my bookings for Private sessions?
Private sessions can be booked up to 1 month ahead from the present to 3pm the day before session.
How can I cancel my booking?
Log in here to cancel your booking or contact us at en@bdcpilates.com before the cut-off time.
Cancellation must be made by 8pm the day before your booking date. 100% cancellation policy will be applied for notifications made after the given window.
By when do I need to cancel my booking?
Cancellations must be made by 8pm the day before your booking date. 100% cancellation policy will be applied for notification made after the given window.
What will happen if I did not cancel my booking and did not show up for lesson?
Failure to turn up for session will be charged in full or you will lose your lesson credit.
Up to how many bookings can I make at a time?
Omotesando and Ebisu studio: You can make up to 4 bookings at any given time.
Kichijoji studio: You can make up to 3 bookings at any given time.
Is there a cancellation fee?
YES. Cancellation made after 8pm the day before your booking date will either be charged at the full rate for both Group and Private sessions, or you will lose your lesson credit.
What happens if I cannot make it to lesson on time?
To avoid possible injuries, please arrive on time for your class as entry may not be permitted after 5 minutes after the class has started.
I forgot my login password for the online account. What should I do?

Which devices can I use to book online?
PC and smart phones.

Application Procedures

Is a waiting list available?
YES. Notification will be sent to your registered email address when a slot becomes available. Please note that being on the waiting list does not confirm your booking. When you receive the notification email for an open slot, you must make your reservation if you wish to make the booking.

When is the monthly membership fee due?
Due date is 27th of each month, or the next business day, for the membership fee of next month.
Can I pay by credit card?
Credit card can be used for the first payment upon joining the studio and for purchasing additional sessions.
Monthly membership fee cannot be paid by Credit card.
I lost my membership card. What can I do?
500 yen (plus tax) will be charged to issue a new card with a new membership number.
Can I change my membership type?
YES. Advance notice is required.
Apply by 20th of each month in person at the studio, and change will be applied on the second month counting from the month of notification. (Ex: To change membership type from December 1, you must apply for change by October 20th.)
How can I change my personal information, including bank account?
Please ask our receptionist for assistance. To change your account information, presentation of the ATM card linked to the new account is required for process.
Can I suspend my membership?
YES. Advance notice is required.
Apply by the end of each month in person at the studio, and suspension of your membership will start from the second month counting from the month of notification.
(Ex: To suspend your membership from January 1, you must apply by November 30th.)

Under the suspension term, a registration fee or a one-time membership fee will not be required when you want to reactivate your status.
How can I terminate my membership?
YES. Advance notice is required.
Apply by the end of each month in person at the studio, and termination of your membership will be applied from the third month counting from the month of notification.
(Ex: To terminate your membership from January, you must apply by October 31st.)

Under the membership termination term, a registration fee and a one-time membership fee will be required when you want to restart.
How can I reactivate my membership?
Please call the studio or email us to make your first booking to reactivate your membership. Maximum of 2 months up-front payment may be required upon reactivation. Direct automatic payment will resume 2 months after your reactivation.
How can I change my membership to other BDC PILATES studios?
Advance notice is required.
Apply by 20th of each month in person at the studio, and changes will be applied from the second month counting from the month of notification. (Ex: To change studios from December, you must apply by October 20th.)
New membership card will be issued at the cost of 500 yen (plus tax).
I became pregnant. Can I still take a lesson?
Group class is not available during Pre-Natal period, however Private sessions may be offered from the second trimester. Please ask our staff for further information regarding the changing of membership type.

【Benefits of Pilates during Pregnancy】

During pregnancy, our body will go through multiple changes as the baby grows.
The low impact Pilates workouts can help alleviate back pains and ease other pregnancy discomforts caused by increased physical strains. It will help prepare you to have a greater control during labour and faster recovery after birth.

Equipments

Please tell me what types of equipments and props are used in the studio.
Cadillac, Reformers, Barrels, Chairs, Magic Circle, Pinky Balls, Thera-Bands, Pilates Balls, Yoga Balls, and many more.
Does your studio have locker and shower room?
Our facilities have dressing rooms with lockers with keys.
No shower is available.
